How about livening up the board--allowing guests to discuss once a week.

How about livening up the board by allowing guests to discuss different topics once a week...For instance...the Virginia Tech issue of recent days.  It would let the local people discuss how they feel about it and it could be educational.

This might  liven the board a bit as I note repeatedly there are guests present but only one post for the day.  I wonder if people will soon lose heart as it is discouraging to come and see nothing new posted.  People keep checking back because they want to know what their friends and neighbors think. ( It would have to STAY on topic but would give guests a chance to speak out...sort of like QC Online.)  You could even have others help you watchdog it to keep it clean, respectful, etc.

Then the next week you could change the topic and the other post would be archived.  It might not interest people, I don't know, but sometimes there are great things out there that others haven't heard yet or is helpful information.  Of course if you only want this to relate to the Aledo news items, then this might be irrelevant.

You could branch out about financial issues, raising children, happy marriage tips, etc.

May I suggest that you sign up like 123 other members have.

The guest boards were closed for a reason. To many people were misusing them. Like I said before, it only takes a few to ruin a good thing.

I for one appreciate the fact that the personal attacks on people who are not part of the political arena have gone away and would not like for that to happen again.  Posters seem to be less likely to use obscenities or be abusive if they are required to register.  It makes one think twice before posting and to edit replies closer.
