As I see it, an Automotive Board would be a repository for discussion of automotive topics. It would also bring added dimension to this site.

The automotive section I'm proposing would be strictly general and limited to discussions of cars, trucks, tractors, etc. or their manufacturers.

Voting is open for 2 weeks. Please leave a comment or suggestion whether you voted or not.

Thanks,
That Guy

An automotive board is an interesting idea, but unless it somehow pertains to Aledo, wouldn't it make more sense to just go to an automotive board?

This is the Aledo forums, so an automotive board that somehow tied in to Aledo would be good.  However, if it's just to talk about cars and stuff, signing up on an automotive forum would make more sense, if only for the fact that you would have more than 5 people to talk to.

I think we should have one on here; if you sign up for an automotive forum, to get an answer you have to pay them!!  We might be able to get more people to sign up on here and we have plenty of members that haven't put a post on this forum.

I say lets give it six months and see how it works out

That's not exactly true, ConcernedCitizen. If you belong to a dedicated site (i.e. Camaro, Ford Truck, Corvette, etc) you'll get answers to your questions for free. However, you'll be talking to folks that could be hundreds if not thousands of miles from you. And their focus is narrow.  Sites that are more general may charge, I don't know.

I like your idea of a limited trial, though. And, I agree that some people who come here to read posts might be more likely to post if there was something here relevant to their interests. Never hurts to diversify.

This forum (site) won't grow if it remains Aledo-only.

The Aledo Forum is, as stated on the homepage, for the Aledo and Mercer county area.  So possibly more people will get involved in a more neutral type of conversation or maybe not since we may not be able to sling mud or insult some one.  Anyway, I already have a question I would like to bring up for discussion and hopefully  find a way to fix my automotive problem.

farmboy, maybe you could start a topic in 'general' and see what your response is. I'll chime in if I have anything to contribute.

It is getting a little late to be worrying about my automotive problem this year but guess it is still not to late to fix it for next year.  I have gotten very little heat from my truck's heater this year.  I replaced the heater core last year (because of a leak).  This year I  when I didn't get heat, I replaced the thermostat.  I had the heater controls checked at the same time I had a coolent system flush.  The mechanic thought that the water pump was not circulating the water so I replaced the water pump.  Still no heat.  A different mechanic told me that the fan clutch was faulty.  After replacing the fan clutch still no heat.  One other repairshop manager suggested putting a cardboard infront of the radiator which is what I  have done.  I have also noticed a few other Ford pickups with cardboard infront of the radiator, so I guess I am not the only one with a heating problem.  Maybe that is the only alternative.

you guessed it.......FORD. Nah, really, I always use synthetic oil in my three vehicles. I found that in the oldest one, I had to get a hotter thermostat. Better lubrication and less friction doesnt mean well for some heating systems while using synthetic oil.

farmboy I'll PM you.

ivebeentherendunit: I'll PM you too. I'd like to know what your experiences have been with synthetics.

Voting ends in three days.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of interest, though. That's too bad. I doubt that it would have been as lively as the 'General' thread but, it might have been interesting.

As to the question of it being Aledo or Mercer County only, there is only one other board here that identifies with Aledo 'only': Green Dragons.

if you need help or have a question, start a thread. I could be put in the general board.

An automotive board would be where you would do that instead of having it get lost in a general thread.
